State Route 11 intersects two lakes in southern Trumbull County near the city. The lake along the eastern edge of the highway, towering above the other, remains full. On the lower lake’s southern shore rests a 45-foot-high concrete dam that once held back millions of gallons of water. Now it holds back nothing but shoulder-high thistles and scrub grass that have replaced the lower lake, which was drained in 2006.

Pembrooke Place faces fines, lawsuits, other penalties
Centers Medicare and Medicaid Services have a special list, one that most nursing homes don’t ever want to be on. As of Nov. 15, one Youngstown facility has been on that list for 11 months. Pembrooke Place Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, 850 E. Midlothian Blvd., is on the Special Focus Facility Initiative list, which includes facilities that need special attention because they have gotten more code violations that is considered acceptable.

Girard’s $4.9M investment in 2 lakes yields little but debt, disappointment. After Youngstown State University senior Adam Magana met sophomore Hope Bobonick in real life, he did what any other college student would do - looked her up on Facebook. He was unsuccessful. Magana, of Austintown and an employee at local software company Azork Technologies, works around social networking daily.
